Spice Up Your Space and make Your Home ‘Junique’!

Powder Room with custom wallpaper and shiplap

Hi guys, Julia here.

I have to admit, I've always had a passion for unique wallpapers, murals, or paneling. Although I love the minimal and contemporary vibe, there's just something about certain patterns, textures, or colors that can add something very special to a space.

That's why I love walking trade shows like BDNY. You get to meet distinctive manufacturers and makers of unique wallcoverings. For context, BDNY is a show mostly about hospitality and commercial design. You'll find materials there that designers use for awesome hotels and commercial spaces that make you go "wow" when you step inside.

But hey, you can totally adapt these styles and apply them on a smaller scale in your own home. I have always been a big fan of thinking outside of the box and strongly believe there is always something to pick up or draw inspiration from even if it's from a totally different scene or field.

Anyway, let’s get to the point. If you're sitting there thinking, "That's great but where do I start? I don’t have the imagination, and I haven't got a clue where to find the good stuff!” I've got you covered. Let me share some ideas and steer you in the right direction.

Ideas and Inspiration: Quick Tips and Transformations

Wallpapers

Let me start with the easier materials: wallpapers! It is such a quick way to take any space to the next level, instantly giving to your home character and charm, or injecting some color to lift the room's energy. And as I said, it's a nice surprise every time you walk in; you'll absolutely LOVE your home! Honestly, my powder room (check it out above) is hands down my favorite room in the house.

We chose wallpaper from a Ukrainian company, and they scaled the pattern to fit our space perfectly. Every time I step into that room, it's like being transported to an Italian landscape with an artsy touch. We even added some shiplap on the lower part of the walls to create an even more interesting contrast and added flat ceiling molding for a clean finish.

Wallpapers can be added to any room in your home, but if you haven’t used it yet, I'd recommend starting small like a powder room, laundry, walk-in closet, or even a pantry. It’s a smaller part of your home so you don’t have to commit to a huge change. Plus, since you're not in there 24/7, chances are that you will NOT get sick of it! We promise quite the opposite!

Walking into your fun little space will feel like a breath of fresh air! And it will give you the confidence and reassurance that you can wallpaper more spaces in your home!

Wall Panelling

Here's another option to add a bit of uniqueness to your home: wall paneling! It's versatile, and totally eye-catching. Trust me, it’s a smart way to instantly transform your home. Wall paneling adds texture, depth, and interest to walls and is great for all types of properties, especially in places where architectural features are minimal.

Options for Wall Panelling

When you're dealing with a tiny space, vertical paneling works like magic to make the walls seem taller, so much so your eyes travel up! Or, you could go for half-height paneling, perfect for behind a bed or desk to build a cozy headboard effect.

For spaces that are large, full-height paneling stops the room from feeling empty or flat. Plus, it's awesome for dividing open-plan spaces, giving each area its own vibe and purpose.

Now take a look — molded contemporary styles are really gaining popularity. Brands like Orac Décor offer some really cool 3D paneling sheets with modern shapes such as fluted, ribbed, and Art Deco-inspired designs to add that extra tactile element to your space.

Fluted and slatted styles, whether in wood or stone finishes, are highly sought after, which I adore. If you want to stay ahead of trends, keep an eye out for Shaker paneling featuring thinner and more spaced-out slats, for a modern twist on this classic look.

Adding Color to Your Space

You can experiment with color. Don't hesitate to! There’s been a comeback in using vibrant wallpaper designs within or behind wall panels, like bold botanical prints matched with moldings in coordinating colors. If wallpaper seems overwhelming, blending a range of earthy tones is a trendy way to create depth.

For whatever route you choose, we are here to help! We can render your wall and simulate different styles, explore creative options, and make sure you get exactly what you want based on your style and budget. And of course, we can help with the installation too.
